Way far out in the Arctic Ocean there is a small isolated Norwegian island.
At 71° N 8°30`W situated around 500km from Greenland and 1000km from the Norwegian mainland you will find Jan Mayen.
The island became a part of the Norwegian kingdom in 1930 and is still staffed today at all time by the Norwegian army and the Norwegian meteorological institute. The only way to reach Jan Mayen is either by boat or plane, but is very limited, making it an exotic place few people ever will experience.
